  • Upper School Mathematics Part-Time Short-Term Leave Substitute

    The Ellis School, the only pre-kindergarten to grade 12 independent all-girls day school in Pittsburgh, PA, is seeking a part-time short-term (8-week) leave substitute in Upper School Mathematics for the Fall of 2024. Responsibilities will include teaching two sections of Algebra 2 and one section of Statistics. Given the nature of our rotating schedule, the position will require the candidate to be on campus every other day. The leave will begin sometime in October and last for 8 weeks.
    Qualifications:
    An undergraduate degree in mathematics or equivalent background is required. Ideal candidates will possess a commitment to using innovative pedagogical practices and technology to enhance instruction, as well as enthusiasm about all-girls education. In addition, preference will be given to candidates with a demonstrated enthusiasm for working with and teaching adolescents, a strong sense of school community and teamwork, and excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.   • Extended Day Staff Member, Part-time

    The Ellis School is seeking an energetic, responsible individual who loves working with children to fill a part-time position in our after-school program. A willingness to work as part of a team providing a safe and fun environment for elementary school girls in pre-kindergarten through grade 4 is required. Experience working with children is preferred.
    The position runs late August through late May. Regular hours are from 2:00–6:00 p.m. daily; however, full days may be required as predetermined throughout the school year. Preference for candidates who can work three or more days per week.

    Primary Responsibilities: 
    • To take attendance of students upon arrival and take charge of student dismissal
    • To supervise active play in the gym and on the playground
    • To help prepare snacks
    • To supervise activities in various meeting and play spaces
    • To support Extended Day staff working in Middle School
    • To know and follow the rules of the School and remind students to do the same when in attendance in the Extended Day Program
    • To be energetic and interact with students
    • To lead age-appropriate games and activities
    • To work cooperatively with colleagues
    • To show up consistently and on time for duties
    • Occasional lifting may be required

    Qualifications:
    • Must be 18 years of age or a high school graduate
    • Understanding of the developmental needs of youth, specifically those ages 3–9, and the demonstrated ability to supervise active children
    • A strong sense of community and teamwork
    • Excellent interpersonal communication skills

    Compensation:
    Hourly wage is $16 an hour; paid monthly.

  • Substitute Teachers (Pre-kindergarten–Middle School)

    The Ellis School is seeking qualified substitute teachers to provide coverage for expected and unexpected faculty absences.
    Primary responsibilities include teaching a variety of subjects to a range of age levels from pre-kindergarten students to middle school students and providing a consistent and optimal learning environment by executing the teacher’s plan for the day. Additional responsibilities include supervising students during arrival, dismissal, lunch, and recess. The hours for this position are 8:00 a.m.–3:00 p.m.

    Ideal candidates will possess an enthusiasm for working with and teaching children, as demonstrated by prior experience in a school setting, a strong sense of teamwork, and excellent interpersonal communication skills. Candidates must have up-to-date clearances.     The Ellis School seeks experienced candidates for coaching positions. These positions will be responsible for developing the athletic program and players under the direction of the Athletic Director.
    The Successful Candidates Will Possess:
    • Experience teaching applicable skills and strategies that apply to the skill level of the players.
